Egdon Heath Harriers is a Running Club based in Dorset, in the South of England.

We have a membership of runners who are primarily from the Dorchester and Weymouth area. We host three races each year: The 'Egdon Easy' in Weymouth during spring and the 'Maiden Castle Loop' at Dorchester in the summer, and the Weymouth 10 (guess where) in the autumn. The application forms for these races will be available online. Just hit the 'Forms' button at the head of this page.

We meet regularly on a Tuesday evening at 7pm at the Weymouth Squash Club during the winter months. In the Summer we put together a calendar of meets that takes us running all over the Dorset Countryside. Check out the training section to find out where we will be running next Tuesday.

The most common enquiry that we get is from people interested in joining the club, but asking will I be good enough?

The misconception is that you have to be a good runner to join the club.

Whilst there are undoubtedly some good runners at the club, the standard is very mixed but with one common interest - enjoying running and keeping fit with other like minded people.

When we are out on our 'training runs', no one is ever left behind. When we meet on a tuesday night, we will typically split into two or three groups, which will translate into slow mediumand fast.

The groups will share much of the proposed route, but the faster groups will typically add extra loops and routes on, so will also run further distances.

A typical short run may be 3-5 miles, whilst the longer run may be up to 9 miles or so.During the winter we meet at the squash club in Weymouth and occasionally at the Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre in Dorchester.

Obviously we are restricted to running in the built up, street lit areas, but sometimes there will be a theme to part of the running such as relays or a measured mile etc. In all cases it is up to the idividual as to how much they wish to put into their running.

The summer runs are probably seen as more interesting, with runs being arranged all over South Dorset and are a good way of seeing some of the great countryside (and pubs) the area has to offer. Again, there will be several groups, covering different distances. Some of the summer runs are followed by barbeques, which is a good excuse to get back quicker and replenish the energy levels!

We welcome runners of all standards, and suggest that people come along for a few weeks to see if they like it before actually joining. If you then wish to join, annual membership is just £10. A  membership form is available from the link below. We hope we have convinced you to come along to one of our evening training runs, but if you do, please introduce yourself to a few people so we can make you feel more welcome.

If you have any questions, please mail us, using the link below.
